Ms. Tanya Nguyen-Do

Advocate for an unaffiliated Buddhist sect in Vietnam

Ms. Tanya Nguyen-Do

Tanya came to the United States as a refugee from Vietnam in 1975 and credits her entrepreneurial successes to her family and new homeland. She learned about the Thien Am Buddhist Sect last October from watching the artistic performance of the sect's child monks on Youtube. She volunteered to teach them English. When this sect, because of its religious beliefs, was targeted for persecution by both the government and the government-created Buddhist Church of Vietnam, Tanya started an international advocacy campaign to rescue her very young students and the 30 members of this small Buddhist sect in Vietnam.
